How did people do last night with the freeze? It was around 30F here, so far it looks like I got lucky. There are a very few kiwi leaves showing damage, as in 1% or so. They are on a hill and the plants at the bottom are in a colder spot so they are more likely to get singed.

low of 28 up here. nothing is past budding so it should be fine

I ended up covering my blueberry but am kind of dreading going out to take a look later today! :grimacing: I think low here was 28 as well. Forecast moving forward shows mid to high 30s at the coldest so not the 40 I was hoping for but not terrible.

according to my ambient weather ws-2000 it got down to 34 last night by me. hoping damage is minimal to non-existent. haven’t been out yet to inspect.

Mine are showing damage. All are sagging. Hopefully the buds that have not totally emerged yet are still good. Fruitlet damage still unknown. Supposed to get down to around the same temps tonight as well.

Says got down to 28 here with a feels like 19 per weather app at like 6am Gaithersburg… I brought in my stuff that could of had issues, everything looks fine for the most part that was outside though. Didn’t notice any damage on anything.

Ouch, that sounds like what happened to me last year. My plants re-sprouted fine from backup buds but I got very few fruits since nearly all of the fruiting buds were wiped out.

It stayed above freezing in Parole as well - no sign of any damage here.

Almost all of the fruitlets on our Japanese plum are turning yellow and falling off, but that was evident before last night. Either a consequence of the hard freeze last month or poor pollination; I suspect the latter give that I didn’t see any bees in the area when it was blooming last week.

At a little before 7 I checked my heat pump that has an outdoor sensor and it said 31. The apps were at 29 and 30. Not a huge difference but gives me more confidence that it was not as low in my yard. I haven’t seen any issues yet on my plants.

Things look good on my front. The nearby water helps level things out. Thermometer shows that things were down to 28.8 so I expected the peaches and nectarines to show at least a bit of damage. Happily surprised.

Hoping for the best here in DE, low of 28 last night 4 hours below freezing. My peach and nectarine both had open flowers. Peach is at the end of flowering and nectarine at the start. All my veggies seedlings are fine, onions lettuce and brocs all like the cold.

Luckily it looks like my blueberry did fine. I was probably overreacting but I didn’t want to lose a crop! In fact, more progress than when I covered on the blooms. They probably liked it a bit warmer. I’m assuming later varieties don’t have an issue. My early bird is a patriot variety. Nothing else is blooming yet!

I actually think we stayed at 32 and above. I spent a lot of time moving large containers of flowering blueberries, trees and leafed out pomegranates to the garage and covering flowers outside, but pretty sure it was all unnecessary. Looks like it’s smooth sailing from here on out and inside/outside game ends today as everything goes back out!!!

Is there a digital thermometer that is sending info to phones that you all like? I hesitate to set something up and obsess more about it, but would be nice.

Same here, looks like we might be in the clear thankfully! Oh gosh, I was thinking about something like that but opted against it for the exact reason you suggested! Probably works for small orchards like mine, but I am planning on just creating modular covers that fit the bushes and trees. I’ll probably only need them for my peaches. Still bitter about those blooms getting iced.

I wonder if a outdoor temp sensor similar to what HVAC systems use could work or if they have a similar wireless option that can connect to the phone. My heat pump had one to detect frost, and then there is also a duct one to measure register air temp. Or something like an inkbird that people use for brewing temp control but you wouldn’t use the attached outlets (just have to plug it in).

My Acurite weather station shows a low of 30F Wed morning and 31F this morning in Fairfax. Glad I left my potted plants and extra day in the garage to be safe.

I had one maybe ten years ago which was connected to Weather Underground so I could view my weather data in that website or app. But it died after maybe five years. It was the third or fourth outdoor weather station I had owned which died, and I decided I had thrown enough electronics into landfills at that point. If there was a truly reliable one I’d buy it, but they all seem cheap.

Re: the heat pump thermometer, I also have one of those. It’s right on the house though and so will read several degrees higher just due to the warmth the house is giving off. I have an IR thermometer and this winter when it was 10F out I measured how far from the house it was still a bit warmer due to house heat. I had to get 10’ from the house before there was no further decrease of the temperature.

Yesterday it got down to 25F and was <30F for about 4 hours. Today’s low was only 28F but was still below freezing for over 4 hours. Flowers near the weather station look pretty bad. I’m sure the peaches are not happy either (they had already gotten blasted a couple times but I was hoping a few fruit would set).

sad frozen thawed apple flowers:

I don’t have a thermometer by the “lower orchard” and those trees look slightly better, so maybe it wasn’t as cold down there.

I have an ambient weather station (had it three years now) I really like it. @scottfsmith I would think five years is pretty good for something that’s outside in the sun and cold taking a beating. Then again, I got one of the less expensive models (about 150 dollars) and so had perhaps lower expectations.

Another frozen night here. 26.6 at its lowest. Damage looks negligable from what i was able to quickly review. Didnt get to check my Red Baron.

We got down to 28 yesterday and 32 this morning. I don’t see any damage on my plums, but my kiwi leaves got nipped here and there. I’m hopeful that we squeaked by this year.
