Yes, I read that. You requested commonly and commercially available material in violation of their policies.
They are on there for a reason. They can also opt not to send some. And I can request other options. It is not like Iām dumping pvc or nuclear waste illegally. I fully accept the judgement of the Professor and the tools she uses to chose to disseminate orders. You should too. She does this for a living.
Iāve requested a number of apple and pear varieties from GRIN in the past. I donāt think Iāve asked for anything since before the pandemic. I was honest in regards to my end goals/research when requesting and I was sent what I asked for.
Itās a U.S. government program. If you pay taxes in the U.Sā¦youāve covered the costs for a few scions as far as Iām concerned.
If you want to talk about government waste and abuse of tax dollars, Iām more than confident that we can find far more egregious examples.
It makes one wonder if they harbor such ire for hunters using GRIN so they can hunt over a bait tree.
I am fairly new to apples. Iāve grown plenty of other fruit for decades. Part of my intent is to increase apple cultivars that will grow in the south. I offer no apologies for that.
You lost my support with that statement
Go to hunting forums. People do it. Even brag about doing it.
Iām a hunter. I go to hunting forums daily. Iāve seen far more information/research coming from hunters after receiving GRIN accessions than anywhere elseā¦by far.
Good day sir
Your not the only hunter. Not all hunters are the same. Like every other endeavor; there are some bad apples in the barrel. Just watch an hour of game warden shows and you will see some folks.
I do not need a show. We have dog hunters from out of state who annually perform dumb stunts and acts. Last year they were shooting the neighborās Livestock Guardian dogs doing their jobs keeping hunting dogs off their cows. So do not pretend things are all rosy. Dog hunting in Georgia is on itās last days thanks to hunters like that. Or they take the back straps and dump the rest on private lands. See that more often then anything. Or last year out of state hunters were caught twice hunting on the public road.
Yes. I said Iāve seen hunters using GRIN correctly to teach grafting and do education. Newsflash I am Inuit; and hunt myself.
This topic went way sideways.
To the OP, i hope you get your request. I dont hold out lots of hope for you, but honestly, id like to see GRIN send out more scions. Like i mentioned up in the thread, they have deemed my orders unworthy 8 times in a row. The lady i know at Cornell that is studying plant science and is working at Geneva said that the process is being heavily scrutinized and not much material is being sent out to amateur breeders and researchers, but most to select universities and breeding programs.
Well if it gets turned down Iāll be fine. I will just do work on my own. It sucks you can not get plants only they have. I seriously doubt you could even find Piervomaiskoie; much less acquire it anywhere. Or that you have to waste good money re-importing a fine Georgia bred apple like Wallace Howard which they have.
The topic and my order went sideways. Cancelled.
Sorry to hear.
