The weather and pest pressure in other areas could certainly be worse than here, no doubt. Weāve just had thunderstorms and ~2" of rain over the past few days though, and my bagged peaches are looking good so far. Weāre at about 18" of rain for the year so far, around 50" in a typical year. I suppose weāll see how they fare throughout the rest of the season, fingers crossed.
Hornets and yellowjackets may eat a lot of bad bugs but their bad temperament around humans means they are unwelcome here. Other insect predators can pick up the slack, I kill every one I can. Confirming what you stated, they donāt have hair-covered legs like bees so they provide very little in the way of pollination.
This year Iām leaning a little heavier in the direction of bait/poison. Cat food with a very dilute spray of Filrponil on it. Not seeing many YJ queens of late, hopefully itās having an effect!
Knock on wood but so far birds have only gone after cherries here. We have a LOT of birds too, so another āknock on woodā!
