How do you rank FW against other named white varieties you have tried?
I would hazard a hypothesis that even most ‘wild’ trees have a high potential past anthropogenic influence in their selection, just not by the European descendants currently occupying Turtle Island.
Ive not had any of the white varieties to really compare it to. The fruit i had i would say it was a mild pawpaw with a sweet flavor and no bad aftertaste. Flavorwise it would be more similar to Shenandoah than to Susquehanna. I wasn’t able to get fruit from the tree after 2019 because animals or people have been getting the fruit before me. I have a graft of it in my yard and a root sucker from it also. The graft has fruit this year and the root sucker is still about 2ft tall. Hope to be able to report back this season if i get ripe fruit from my graft or from the original tree. Blake has more experience with the fruit than me and would be in a better position to give details about the flavor and how it compares to known cultivars.
I have need.
Website says sold out still
You have to sign up to his mailing list on his website to get the exact timing info (or his Facebook posts on the pawpaw FB groups)…
Hi, You are sold out pretty quickly. Just checked your site today.
DAVELn17, Wasn’t sure if you read the above comments be4 replying… Look at my above comment.
@Blake , maybe you should put this info on the homepage
.
Thanks I missed it.
OMG I think I might have developed an ulcer trying to order a pawpaw LOL.
The website definitely timed out a few times as I was trying to get in to the pawpaw list. I then had an issue because I hit the add to cart button more than once so I ended up with three trees in my cart when I only wanted one and it wouldn’t let me reduce the quantity so I had to delete them and start from scratch. I don’t think I got my order in until 7:30 ish
After all was said done I did end up getting one of the two cultivars I wanted, tropical treat.
Out of curiosity, did you end up selling any Naomi’s delicious? That was the other cultivar I wanted and it appeared sold out at around 7:05 pm. It made me wonder if you even had any in stock to sell or maybe just a few of the supreme grade or something.
I actually brought up the pawpaw sale to two people at work today. Adding to the excitement, I was getting notifications on my phone from waitlist items that were dropping as you were making updates to the website that you took offline temporarily today.
I’m very excited to get the tropical treat. I’ve ordered two mulberries from you in the past and the quality was exceptional. You do excellent work and it’s very much appreciated.
I was interested in seeing folks’ reports on this so thanks for sharing!
Not sure a pawpaw is worth an ulcer for me. ![]()
Blake i sent in 5 leaves for my pawpaw . that came from a cutting and is self polinating also has a yellow stripe down the middle. the mother tree was hundreds of yrs old got cut down in NC after . but it was hit by lightning and then the friend who sent me 2 cuttings 1 lived . died so her property and old plantation went to a park and a dog park
I was too late for the sale myself, although I was undecided about what I wanted anyway.
It’s a top-notch wild tree. Great find and I’m happy to have introduced it to the nursery trade.
I want to thank those that nearly died placing pawpaw orders yesterday. I am currently working with a new IT team and we are switching the website over to a new platform that will perform better, faster and more reliably. I sold out in 4 hours.
However, I will have more available in the near future as a small 2nd batch of pawpaws is ready. PM me if you missed the sale and wish to place an order with us.
Thank you very much and please see a doctor - pawpaw ordering-induced anxiety ulcers are a real issue.
Blake,
Are you still rank HI 1-4 high on your favorite list?
Tony
Does anyone know if Perry’s paw paws offers decent quality trees?
Yes, KSU 1-4 is fabulous. Rich, thick texture, great flavor and very little seed weight. I grafted a few crates this spring but not selling them till released by KSU.
Good to hear. My 2 seeds from HI 1-4 from you is about 3 feet tall. Just have to wait a few more years for them to flower.
