Pawpaws in 2025!

Pawpaw scions seem to be more expensive than apple in general. Here’s a cheaper place I just bumped into that has things in stock, Olivia’s Orchard – $6 each including shipping. There is a minimum of 5 scions. I’ve ordered from Red Fern Farm several times and they also have good prices.

to be clear, most of their scions are 10-12 bucks, not 32. thats just their one “premium cultivar” theyre releasing. which im a bit usspect of since it seems like they just grew out some seeds and said yeah im releasing this without like. more breeding.

There are those that respectfully build on the achievements of their predecessors, and also those that see dollar signs and try to run over top of them.

Question: Can you keep 1yo pawpaw seedlings indoors (room temp 70F) under grow lights during the winter? Like i dont care if dormancy is needed for flowering/fruits since Im just interested in getting extra growth during the winter.

Dormancy is needed for survival of the tree. Pawpaws must have a dormant period or they will die. However, you could shorten the dormant period by growing indoors under lights to ‘extend summer’. I’ve heard this can be done.

The better approach is to maximize growth during the summer. I can get 4 foot tall trees with 1/2 inch or bigger caliper in 18 months from seed by optimizing conditions organically.

I believe I’ve commented on him before here. I’m not a fan of his tactics or methodology.

I try to stay far away from him. I’ll leave it at that.

Same. I hesitated to speak on it but that guy was stealing information from my site and books without permission to promote his website. I’ve seen his products in person, they are low quality and his tactics are illegitimate. He’s rude and only out for himself. Stay away.

Sorry to hear that, Blake.

It’s fine, I ended up demanding he list us as the source of his info, which he eventually did.

That guy just shows a lot of disrespect in his efforts to make money on pawpaws, and is rubbing people the wrong way.

It’s important to show respect and honor those in your (desired) field that have worked for many years to turn an obscure wild plant into a lucrative crop. Personally I’ve always tried to show Cliff, Neal, Jerry, Woody and others tons of respect and never rip off their stuff. I think it’s one of the reasons I have been so successful.
