Peach USDA zone 4?

Hi Brian,
Did you relocate your Goldmine nectarine? And how did it respond this year? I read it’s one of the most planted trees in New Zealand, which is where the Luisa hybrid plum originated as a naturally created seedling.
I grafted Luisa 3 years ago and tonight we ate the first of 3 fruits the graft bore this year. Such a beautiful large plum and a very nice treat.
I am thinking that somehow it was created thru open cross pollination of the more common stonefruits on the Island. It has a shape more resembling a nectarine than a plum, so it’s possible your Goldmine nectarine could be one of its parents.
I am trying nectarines here and have several nice grafts growing that should fruit next year Harko and Mericrest.

Hey Dennis,

I did relocate it, very carefully, in early-mid November. It died back nearly to the graft over the winter, but I think that was partly due to an extreme cold event of -22 F/-30 C in January, and partly due to me having pruned it in late winter before the cold was fully over. So I ended up digging it up and replacing it (with a Flemish Beauty pear) rather than waiting 3 years for it to grow back to the same size.

I also relocated a Debbie’s Gold apricot at the same time in the fall and gave it a similar late winter pruning and it is thriving. I think I will wait until bud swell to prune my stone fruits in the future.
