Peach Varieties with frost resistance

They’re at pink. Some are JUST opening up…but not fully. It’ll be mid 20s at night starting tonight. Then tomorrow night also. Not sure what this will do the the buds. We’ll see though. I sure do love growing from seed though. One of my trees we estimated had about 1000 fruit. I had to thin twice. I was exhausted the first time then had to go back.

I’m in central Ohio. Seems like every year a forecasted day or two frost turns into dang near a week of January freeze weather. We were 27 last night. Wind and low of 21 will be so strong tonight that I’ll likely lose much of what wasn’t killed during January. Pears are 50%bloom, apples tight cluster to first pink and peaches at calyx red to first pink. I know that critical temp charts suggest some will be ok, but those always seem inaccurate for me. Praying some make it through. I’m looking into propane heaters for the pears.

Very interested to hear how your trees come through this cold. My contender and red haven are the only mature trees that have blooms this year. I do have some younger varieties I’m hopeful will be more cold/frost hardy in years to come. The 1 year old 40" tall frost peach came through the winter (-13) with viable blooms. I’ll be amazed and super pumped if they survive this week. Always hunting for that bullet proof peach… that you can eat.

I would likewise be interested in scion wood for this fall. Unfortunately, we had another late freeze this year and only the young peach trees in pots have evidence of any fruit and I am removing them. Thanks!
