Zirochka under protection for the winter with it’s pot repurposed as rodent/ rabbit protection and a buildup of woodchips outside of that above the graft union. I planted it after leaf out in my garage, and then nature proceeded to whack it HARD with a late frost this spring. I am optimistic it will thrive in 2024 after this years setback.
@disc4tw Is this one still kicking? I have two Zirochka grafts I’m debating on planting out, might keep one potted for now as a backup and try the other one outside.
She’s dead! The rootstock popped up this year to try again.
-9 F this past winter was apparently too much for my young tree.
@disc4tw Well that’s very sad! I’m thinking I’ll roll the dice on one and try to protect it. We had -12°F last year, but the year before that our low was 4°F. I hope it’s hardier in the long run or it will be toast.
I think it can handle our conditions once established.
