Picking Peaches

I found the list on the link below on the Clemson site. Looks like there are about 9 ripening windows for peaches, but I don’t see Gold Dust

http://www.clemson.edu/hort/peach/index.php?p=73

Based on the information, my gap is during something they call “Coronet” season. I see a few *.Prince peaches on the list but I’m not familiar with any of these peaches

Rick,

The following should ripen between Harrow Diamond and Redhaven. You might consider these to fill your gap:

Sugar May white peach (-20)
Snowqueen white nect (-16)
Garnet Beauty yellow peach (-15)
Snowbrite white peach (listed by some as a hairless white nect) (-10)
Glenglo yellow peach (-10)
GaLa yellow peach (-9)

(- Approximate number of days ripening before Redhaven)

Thanks Matt

I.m going to check them out. I had a Glenglo peach from a local orchard last year and it was very good

Harrow Diamond is ready here now. As far as I can tell from our screwed up weather, it ripens the same time as Desiree and PF5B. All these peaches weren’t worth harvesting because of the bad weather, although some of the PF5B are OK.

Earlystar also ripens the about the same time. It’s really weird my one Earlystar tree in my backyard produced some decent fruit in spite of all the rain. It’s a big tree which didn’t set much fruit, so the fruit was huge with a lot of split pits. However the fruit was pretty good tasting for an early peach. However, the Earlystars at the farm had much more fruit and much smaller (about normal size) but those trees had fruit which was unsellable due to the extremely poor flavor. Of course this is such an abnormal year, nothing about the fruit is right.

Of the peaches Matt mentioned, I’ve grown Garnet Beauty for several years and it’s a decent early peach.

I’m currently growing some of the whites Matt mentioned but haven’t harvested them yet. They are typically more problematic (generally more susc. to bac. spot).

Sorry you’ve had bad weather this year.

I always look forward to your reports.
