Planting Bare Root Grapes

A few days after my 7.66" rainfall in 5 hours event.

If being in waterlogged soil affected them I can’t tell yet.

Strung the bottom cordon wire and added grow tubes. Need to cut them down some.

Each vine has multiple shoots, some as long as 3 inches. Slowly waking up.

I’m not overly confident in them yet, but hopefully in a few weeks it will become more apparent if they are giving it a go or not.

No need to cut the grow tubes down. They’ll grow out the top in no time.

It’s above my cordon height so I’ll want to pinch growth to get my two opposite running shoots.

I’m doing VSP training.

Drip irrigation installed on my grape and kiwi trellises.

Not pretty exactly. Now to get use to how much to water.

Trimmed the grow tubes to below the cordon wire so when the vines emerge I have room to prime and train.

My 7 Errante Noir grape vines (can only upload 5 at a time). Not great focus. The last image is the one I’m most worried about. 5 weeks in the ground.

I’ve been concerned about too much water so perhaps I have not watered them enough…

I’ll be happy when I see a good foot growth on each, and happier still when they pop out of the top of the grow tubes.
