Poll: How many fig trees could you propagate and maintain?

@Josh6b
It’s ok. You’re not alone :slightly_smiling_face:.

Didn’t vote. I don’t want any cuttings. But I maybe could take care of 4 or 5 West Coast large fig trees or 5 - 6 East Coast bush figs. The problem with East Coast is the winter wrapping. If no wrapping, then maybe 10 bush figs.

Asked the Mrs.Toro and she was appreciative and excited. Looks like another 2 truckloads of compost is needed.

@Zone6
You could vote zero since you can’t raise the minimum quantity outdoors year-round for years to come.

You are never one to misspeak. So brutal results even if they freeze outside?

Rephrased: do you have the resources and location to grow and maintain 32, 64, … fig trees outdoors year-round for years to come?

Here’s my guess:

J = @jallen
D = @dannytoro1
U = @uwtb
S = @SouthernGardener

Instead of guesses, one can peruse this index by typing just the first letter of the name :slightly_smiling_face::

That’s what I did, but I’m still not sure if it’s right.

@FarmGirl-Z6A
The colors need to match exactly. For example, Danny is in group 64, not 32.

I understand now. I’ve since clicked on the poll results and I see that you can see only the letter, that selecting it doesn’t indicate which forum user has actually voted for a particular number. That’s an unfortunate shortcoming of the poll process in Discourse.

I have 44 figs in ground, and I’m still putting all varieties that I think will ripen in time here in ground for trial. If I got a bundle, there would probably be many copies of varieties I already have, and I wouldn’t want copies of the same variety unless I know it’s a vigorous strain.

Although I am in 7a/b I seem to have a decent microclimate and many figs including Conadria, Smith, Golden Rainbow, LSU Gold seem to have limited dieback, even after very little protection (mulch and straw). Many of my hardier trees survive to the tips.

I’d be happy to guinea pig, but sending me varieties that are semi common is probably a waste of time.

Yes. I think the 32 “D” person is a fellow Georgian!

Hafta figure where in Georgia though.

I didn’t vote so I’m out! lol. I have too many figs already so I’m only looking for one or two of the hardy varieties at this point.

For those of you curious about the process, I am starting with the largest bundles and working toward the smaller. Also, I’m not just grabbing random varieties but instead attempting to choose cultivars that are regionally appropriate. Now in several cases that means I have few to offer. Consequently some folks are receiving consolation prizes instead of bundles.

This process appears to take 2 days per size 64 bundle, and 1 day per size 32. I will contact you for an address if and when I have something to offer.

Seems many did not read the first line.
I voted 128 even though I believe I could do the 512.
Chance to preserve many varieties for free.
How many of you are willing to grow them just to preserve them?

I’m with you. I did not interpret it as “you vote for 32 and you are gifted 32,” but just as a picking of the brain via a poll. Maybe I am too literal.

Meh…lol…I just welcome the chance to spruce up our orchard with some classy varieties. Many of our varieties are roll up the sleeves working style fruit.

I have been walking around w my dog and knocking on random doors for cuttings of their figs.

Richard’s offer would give clarity to my collection and make sure I don’t have 12 of the same one. lol.
