Not there but past color root pouches are super inexpensive at HD.
Edit to add that the strap on one of my 15g root pouches snapped yesterday moving the plant. I’m not happy.

I’ve had some who-knows-what-brand grow bags from (formerly) my local garden center that have lasted 4-6 years and are looking fine, just a bit dirty. Felt and synthetic. I got a pair of root pouches this year and they seem comparable in quality
Edit: they were in mild costal California
I’ve tried a lot of Amazon cheapos. They work okay but get really moldy. I’m trying rain science and epic gardening now. They feel a lot better. I’ll see how they hold up this year
How are you liking these pots? I have the Stuewe and Sons but they are way more expensive compared to these.
They are serving their purpose so far. I’m not even 1 full season in yet so I can’t speak for their durability. I would think they would last a few seasons before needing to be replaced. I don’t think you can beat them for the price.
Yea for the price I am in agreement with you
. Especially if you are planning to sell the plants after a season or two.
i spray mine with vinegar and a little water. kills it off nicely.
this bag was new last year and it’s tore up now. the handles on all these plastic-based bags are the worst i think (“non-woven fabric” means polyester/acrylic)
This year I started upcycling all our 1/2gal milk/juice boxes as pots. Wasn’t sure if it would work but they have held up surprisingly well. I’ve been using them for my fig tree cuttings.
I used to use lots of fabric grow bags, but stopped because none have survived more than 3yrs exposure to the CA sunshine, and fall apart when you try to move them. I’ve also destroyed many between my weed eater, an our outdoor cat who loves to scratch on them. Most were in the 7-15gal size, but some 25 gal and a few 50gal. I’ve tried at least 4 different brands of them, the ones with double stitched edges were the best, the worst were the ones without stitched edges. Been replacing the 25gal bags with halved 55gal poly barrel pots I got for free.
Interesting, I’ve had several for 4-6 years that seem to be in fine shape. All of those years were in Oakland, though, so sunny really only relative to SF and the true coast. I moved inland last fall, so interested to see if that changes (hopefully not because I’ve doubled down on them)
I’m in Placer County at 1000ft, a bit more weather exposure than the Bay Area region. They don’t completely fall apart by then, but the bag is absolutely weakened if you wanted to say relocate a 25gal grow bag that weighs over 200lbs
I previously used paper cups for fig cuttings and all six made it! ![]()
You guys have way more weather, makes sense
I got several very large used bags for free. 35 - 150/200 gallon bags. They are probably 10 years old. I expect them to last another 4 years or so. These are the professional very heavy duty felt ones they sell at big hydro stores. They were used on cannabis grows in California sun in triple digits. The tan ones are in better condition, less heat absorption. The smaller ones she went to give me were starting to get holes in them etc.
The plastic 55 gal barrels cut in half are great. I try to find the blue ones. The white ones I found are kind of crap plastic.
The 25 gallon ones I think don’t last as long as the huge ones. 35 - 150 or more gallons is probably heavier duty. Someone gave me some of those that are really old and still holding up fine.
I used 2 liter soda bottles with the top cut off and holes cut on the bottom for tree seedlings a while ago. I will never do that again. They don’t stack in each other and so are a major PITA to store. They would probably last forever though if someone only needs a few.
I have a blackberry in a similar pot. I’d prefer just to have them in the ground since I think the black pot gets cooked by the sun but I cant figure out where in the ground would work so in the pot it stays. I added a bunch of extra organic matter and a thick layer of pine shavings this year so hopefully it fairs better. Last year all of the berries dried up in the heat regardless of how much water the plant was given.
