My catalog came mid May, about 20 pages, 6" wide and half their normal listing of melons. I think there has been a generation change and they’ve lost interest(can’t remember where I read that). I have 45 planted for the 1st time this year. Same with me on only source. Losing their germplasm and breeding lines would be most unfortunate seeing that they introduce some great seeded wm varieties.
Thanks for info on Desert King. I’ll let you know how mine turn out, and I’ll certainly try Gold Strike next year. As I’ve said, my own personal tastes rank Orangeglo as my very, very facorite tasting melon. The only negative thing I can say about it at all is that I do get several every year that have big hollow spaces inside them. Strange, but its not common enough that its a big problem. Anyone else have that happen? But as much as I love Orangeglo, I grow watermelons mostly to give away, and I find many people just aren’t accepting of orange watermelons. Even though if they were blindfolded I’m willing to bet they would pick Orangeglo every time, many people just think watermelon has to be red and anything else is just not as good. I’ll give a full report on all my melons at the end of the season, and I’d love to read those of others like Ray.
