Protecting your fruit from squirrel's and other critters

A neighbor’s cat visits my yard, nice cat. Would a cat be attracted to this, at risk with this trap? I don’t know much about cats.

It’s a concern I have, as well

Cats do get caught in live traps set for other animals, but it’s easy to release them

do like @smsmith and mount the trap to a board and place it on the animal highway to hell, (their most traversed route). I too have a backyard cat or too, so i have the perfect spot for mine, not going to start till next season when most of my trees will start fruiting.

The tube traps are too small for cats, I think they are designed that way. Our cats have never had any interest in them. I wouldn’t let a baby kitten near one though.

Bought mine on EBay today! Thanks!

saw a feral cat sniffing around the trap, but he moved on…saw a couple of squirrels near the trap, but haven’t had any more luck today…

Thats the same trap, but the price looks a bit better.

good deal, but that one doesn’t have the protective coating…so it’s going to rust…

got a 3rd squirrel on Monday…I’m sure I could catch a squirrel every time I put this trap out…on the bright side, if times get tough we’ll never go hungry…

I’m sure they carry the plastic version as well. These were designed for mink and I use to paint mine with Rust-Oleum. I worked in the trapping industry for 14 years and we use to sell these for $14.99. The owners of Molnar Outdoor are good friends of mine.

Better price than I paid for it - but I can’t find the rustproof one for sale

Anyone try an electronic trap? https://www.amazon.com/PestZilla-Electronic-Rodent-Trap-Squirrels/dp/B06X3VGM34/ref=sr_1_6?ie=UTF8&qid=1496252157&sr=8-6&keywords=Electronic+trap

Thanks Scott for the sage wisdom! I bent back my U, oiled up the lever and got a big fat one this morning. I hope it was one of the bastards that gutted my plum tree.

Thanks. I’m not sure yet if I’ll use the one I got, but if it works, I may want more

Has anyone tried that tube trap setter? It looks quite useful

The trap is pretty easy to set once you get the hang of it. If you put the catch in just the right place you can make the pressure plate very sensitive.

evidently I need some more traps…this is the remains of the only Dorsett Golden that was still on my tree…sad…

Unlike.
I wonder what would happen if you used that for bait. I guess you would have to secure it somehow to the trap.
