Question about chill hours for apples

Just want to clarify that the comment for Dorsett Golden apple on

http://www.kuffelcreek.com/applelist.htm

“If you’re going to plant just one summer-ripening apple, make it this maniac, as it will grow anywhere and produces the year after planting.”

is under the " 2019 - 2020 Warm Climate Apple Variety List" so the “anywhere” is supposed to be any warm regions.

However, I have tried many high chills stone fruit and apple trees, and get fruits in my pretty hot area even though the quality is not quite as good. Most of the time the fruits are not crunchy enough like the same ones grown in cold regions.

Please go ahead and try the Dorsett Golden, you don’t have much to lose since you will know the result soon.

I was in Ithaca three times for a few months, on different seasons, once when my son was four year old. The Finger Lakes and Watkins Glen were so beautiful, and the fall colors was so spectacular for a socal person like me. The winter was so cold we went home after seeing icicles on the trees. They were so beautiful at night but we didn’t have any heavy winter clothing at that time. We really miss the place and plan to come back to visit after my husband retires and travelling is allowed again.
