I have started keeping a jeweler’s loupe in my pocket to get a really close look before I fit the parts together. Just can’t focus as well now, except when the lighting is really good. Looking at it magnified is a little counter productive in one way - you will never get it perfect. But as you say, some grafting styles are very forgiving, especially if the timing is perfect.
