Scion wood sources in Europe

It’s not my field of interest, so I selected some random retail sellers from Poland. I guess if you look more in Czech Republic you will find most of their breeding results like Sandra.

Ps. I don’t think that there is much difference between cherrie trees in terms of dieseas resistance. But maybe it’s just a result of my local conditions.

Which site in particular? all of the sites have extensive lists with varieties, can help navigate if you wish. Otherwise you can use the translate function of your browser, on some of the sites the list is ‘hidden’ on the order form.

You are right but if you dig further you will see that most vendors offer same cultivars, in some species the genepool is extreamly narrow for example I counted 4 selections of black raspberry (from which Megan is likly a cross between Jewel and Munger/Bristol).

This is fantastic. I spent an eternity searching for these varieties on hundreds of sites in several languages without finding anything and you just looked at “some random sellers” and found basically all of them. Your search abilities are incredible.

Some of them seem to ship to my country. I’ll contact the rest to see if they do too.

That helped, thanks.

My sour cherries are very susceptible to rot and I haven’t paid too much attention to the right timing for spraying them and have lost almost all of the fruit over the decade or so that I’ve had it.

My Kordia is supposed to be resistant and I have had no issues with rot whatsoever with 1-2 sprays a year that aren’t timed so well. I spray more if I see a specific problem, of course. The trees are about 10 meters apart.

My resistant grapes are not as delicious as I would like but they have been zero spray for my whole life and the fruit is perfectly healthy every year. That’s why I started looking for resistant cultivars for both cherries and grapes.

If they don’t ship directly I could give you contact date to a freight forwarder company. They can help with plant transport within EU, maybe also with import but I’m not sure as I don’t asked about it.

Oh, I know what you mean now. We have quite drought summer so fungal desease are not so common (even pure viniferas fruit quite well). I couldn’t give you any advices about the cherries but grapes are different matter.

Here are some descriptions of different selections. Maybe you could find something for yourself. The fruit quality should be much better compare to Concord.

I just wanted to report back that I emailed the Polish nurseries by using an AI chatbot to translate from English. One replied back in Polish and was a pretty smooth interaction, considering I don’t speak a word of the language.

I don’t know how good the translation was, but the second one replied directly in perfect English. I’m going to guess that the chatbot didn’t do a particularly good job but still seemed to be perfectly understandable.

The nurseries that didn’t have online stores didn’t reply back. They probably only take wholesale orders.

The one French facebook group that let me in were pretty surprised that I was looking for scions there. I’m guessing they are mostly French and foreigners don’t go there normally. One guy seemed to have a few cherry varieties but was mainly interested in trading and I don’t really have anything noteworthy to trade.

Either way, out of the two grape varieties I was looking for I ordered four. I’ll keep looking for cherries next year.

I feel a bit like a drug addict looking for a fix: “Got Justyna or Irena? Got any friends who can sell some? I don’t mind if they are cut” lol

These two sites had some pretty great descriptions and were very easy to use with a browser translator. Some funny examples:

The second site notes Einset Seedles is probably the best variety a home grower could ever own. The first site says that variety is so bad that they had to remove it to make space for varieties that were actually edible.

The other major recommendation of the second site was Supaga as the second best for home growers and completely “set it and forget it.” The first site doesn’t even bother describing it.

Either way, I found that interesting enough to add both of these varieties to my list and ordered them.

Overall I’ve had very smooth interactions emailing back and forth with the Polish without speaking the language than with nurseries in my own country. I would recommend it to everyone.

What part you look for resistance at? The crack-resistant varieties should give you a good guarantee for fruit in rainy weather. There’re threads here and elsewhere about Eu varieties resistant to cracking.

Plenty of very good to great grape varieties with average and elevated resistance are already available. Of course, some of the fanciest happen to be also the most care intense. With proper soil/environment care one could get better results both at taste and resistance.
What do you have and are looking for? I happen to be in the same region and can help with info about specific varieties and their location, at least. Can DM me.
