Scott's Apple Experiences Through 2025

Of almost 100 apple varieties I have tried or currently growing, nothing has been hit harder by fireblight than Clark’s crab for me in VA. Def not growable for me here.

Mine is on G.214. Wish me luck.

How many of those varieties have actually bloomed though, which is how they get fireblight the majority of the time? Clark’s is ultra precocious so it’ll have a million vectors to get fireblight

Over 40 have bloomed, many have gotten fireblight but none have been completely ravaged like Clark’s, reaching the main trunk and having been totally taken over by it. I have several crabs as well that bloom just as much (Kerr, trailman, pipsqueak, candy crab) but none have had more than small strikes in a couple places that don’t spread. For Clark’s, the entire tree is overtaken.

Here is one on g.11 rootstock - that happened overnight! I’ve had one on m111 and standard rootstock do the same, no pictures though

Looks like I missed this question .. They are fully russeted for me. I didn’t get any this year since my squirrel guard on that tree was too sloppy. They are one of the most popular with the squirrels.

Re: Clarks I’d chime in but mine got munched by deer and I never replaced it. That and a couple dozen other varieties. I finally have learned how to protect grafts from deer, it took me long enough though.

Fireblight blasted my CC; was not expecting that.

It’s sad, I really wanted CC to do well. The mid-atlantic is a tough neighborhood for a fruit tree though.

I expected this. Sad. But understandable.

For trees or scions?

They’ve been out of the mail order tree business for a while.

I asked for clarification. Perhaps I misunderstood their initial statement. I’ll update everyone, and edit my post if necessary, when I hear back.

I thought we would have another couple of years from talking with her last year.{ on scions}.

Big Horse Creek Farm has confirmed that they are indeed selling scions this year. Woohoo!
