I hope to start air-prune beds this year for the seeds of plums, peaches, apples, pears, etc. I collected from last year and also room for this years collections. I hope to get wild plums, serviceberry, hackberry, and hazelnut.
I will be saving pepper, tomatoe, and squash at least from the garden this year.
Nice list. Do you have a date set for completion of your air pruning bed?
I hope to have the bed for the collected seeds built in April with second one shortly after.
I use square plastic peanut ājarsā with the 4" lids to hold the seed packets or diy envelopes. I make the paper envelopes from thin paper and very small because paper ends up taking more room than the seeds!
I store them in the fridge shelf where the butter normally goes (upper shelf). I leave the lid on loosely so the jars donāt retain moisture that can condense when the cold jar is opened in the kitchen.
I have 2 jars and labeled so i know which one to open.
Is it time consuming to make the envelopes? Do you use tape?
I cheat! I cut the corners from envelopes in junk mail. Usually 1 maybe 2 corners are reusable.
I cut them so i can fold the other 2 edges and use elmers glue (cheaper than tape)!
I made a video on theRainHarvester YouTube.
Excellent, thank you! This looks really functional.
Thatās exactly how I made the envelopes that I am using!
Awesome idea! And I love the cheap/minimal floor space seed rack. Thanks for sharing this. I started seed saving last year and ended up with kids plates, paper plates and oven roasting trays covered with seeds and little pieces of paper with names all over my kitchen. It was the opposite of this! But, I found it very meditative to sit still and harvest seeds- especially from my perennials. Aside from saving what I want to keep growing, Iāve become a grocery produce seed saver. Anything good gets saved- especially melons! Iām hoping to find an organic yumi watermelon seed this yearā¦I might be buying 10 when my grocery store gets them this summer.
