I quite like the takeaway tupperware and spread tubs for just having the seeds sat on/sandwiched by moist I cloth though. The hummus pot format I’ve used with actual growing media but it’s harder to spot the seeds.

Wow! All of mine are still in the fridge…
I should have clarified: these are from my crosses with Skillcult pollen, plus a couple Skillcult seeds from last year that didn’t sprout previously. None are my Skillcult order this year.
@TravisWS likewise but next week will be the six week mark so I’ll start to plant my seeds from this year. Will post an update when they sprout!
What a lovely tree!
Has anyone ever shared a 15 gallon (70 litre) or so pot with more than one rootstock in?
I have a few spare m27 rootstocks and wondering about leaving them to root maybe 3/4 to a large pot splayed outwards on our north facing driveway to graft out a few different seedlings onto in concurrent years.
I don’t think I’d go that direction. A stool bed to clone the RS for future use but a bunch of roots in the same pot seems like you’d be dealing with a lot of root binding in the long run. Maybe as a temporary graft landing spot until you can get them into their own pots or planted out.
That does bring up the question of everyone’s plan for their seed. Pots or trial row/rows? I’ll start with pots for sprouting, grow out for a few months, then into a row for trial in the following year. Still trying to decide on the row spacing. That will be dependent on how much space I can dedicate to it and how much self control I have on future seeds.
This is my conundrum but sharing the big pots did seem like a non starter almost immediately after I posted it.
I also have a stockpile of 3 gallon pots for once they’re ready to transplant.
I think realistically all that shall wait and see how many actually get to the point of a couple metres/yards of vertical growth and then graft as many branches out across in ground trees as I can. It will be haphazard because my planting space is not infinite ![]()
Probably too early to be asking but has anyone had any seedlings fruit from Skillcult yet and if so how were they?
I have mine in pots (the ones that have sprouted so far), but will transplant them outdoors to a protected garden bed after the average frost free date for my area (mid May). My trial bed only gives each seedling 18” of space, but I will graft any that seems promising to established trees or rootstock later.
I’m fairly new to this game (last year was my first year hearing about Skillcult or buying his seeds), so I am interested in this as well!
Sad to say that I’ll likely need to do 12” spacing or I’ll run out of room fast. I do like the idea of on their own roots though so I can get a better idea of the growth character without the RS affecting it. Down the line I’ll need to move things over to dwarfing RS for space but I need to clone a bunch first and see which are worth saving.
My oldest seedlings will only be on their third summer this year, so I’m a ways off from tasting anything. I start them in 4 or 6 inch pots once they sprout in the fridge, then put them in an air pruning bed for one summer, then transplant into trial rows at 12-18 inch spacing at the beginning of the second summer.

I was checking this year’s seed today; no germination yet. Anyone getting sprouting action?
Nothing for me yet from this year’s order.
If you don’t mind saying, when did you purchase and how long was stratification? got mine 3 week ago and went into the refrigerator the next day.
