Some of these figs the fig collectors grow are pretty nasty looking

I like my figs with just a little bit of stretch marks. Have to keep them commercial quality pretty because that’s the future plan.

I have a bakery that’s interested in my fruits and I’m hoping to extend it to the grocery store that they’re in in the future so everything has to be pretty for presentation purposes.

I think these are the most perfect level to figs. Still pretty but juicy and blemish free. Latarolla, Nero 600m, mega Celeste, and one other i don’t remember…

The water doesn’t dilute the flavors at all here. If you don’t water, the quality of the fruits will be down. Water is essential because there is plenty of sun and heat. We have a very long sunny day. The plant will convert the water in flavorful syrup. In fact, the black figs are too sweet and I can’t eat too much of it. I like my figs to be juicy and sweet. One time I put a fig in my pocket and forgot about it. It was a wet mess.

We’re probably not going to resolve this disagreement. But you say that the figs in the OP “look too ripe or not enough water.” Could you then post some pictures of what you consider to be a good looking fig, i.e. not too ripe but plenty of water?

Also, I see you’re in Z9. That covers a lot of territory. Could you say where?

Right. If we compare this fig with the one in the OP at 3 o’clock, we have similar fruits but one more ripe and less wet than the other. I’m sure that the fig in the OP would taste better.

Last year picture of the fig. I posted it, but here it’s again. Yeah, great looking fig. Super juicy and sweet. It’s like eating pure honey. I’m in one of the hottest place in town and you can grow a lot of things. Due to our climate, fig will wrinkle if they don’t get enough water.

Thanks. IMO, this fig is underripe. One tell is the greenish-white pulp between the flesh and the skin. Another tell is the absence of wrinkles in the skin. A third tell is the fact that the neck is ripped from the stem; the stem did not detach from the tree.

You may like the flavor and texture. I can’t argue with that. But I know for sure that you can do better.

The skin can be darker, but it does not taste under-ripe. It’s already sweet like candy. The darker one tasted slightly more sweet. Then, it will be too sweet for my taste. Looking is subjective, but tasting is more accurate. It’s perfect. The best thing to do is make more figs.

If it taste good to you, then that is what matter. Most of the time, the taste will evolve with you. When you was a child, you may like certain things. When as an adult, the taste can change and the feeling can change. Food is life.

When ripe for me they are not just more sweet the flavor is a lot stronger. You know turns your head it’s so good. The col de dam figs are so amazing ugly ripe. I much prefer them over black Madeira. When they wrinkle they still are very juicy not really dry at all. The texture mellows and does not interfere with enjoying the feel. The only fruit I know of that is best when aged. When the cells start to break down, like a water ballon hanging over your hand, man the best that way. They are extremely soft at that point. No way to sell them like that. Why growing them is so cool.
