Spring Satin ripens early

Ended up grafting mine over. The fruit was reasonable size and nice looking, but like you I wasn’t too impressed.

Same here, I am under impressed with it. Mildly sweet and bland flavor. I am topworking it to Flavor Supreme.

My Spring Satin had a great and strong flavor this year. I wonder if there is some climate or soil differences that explain these different impressions, or if it really is just different peoples’ different tastes?

Good point, I think some fruit varieties require hot weather to reach best quality (soil can also have a role). My Honey Lite and Honey Royale nectarines grown in CT (under best care) produce fruit significantly inferior to CA grown ones that I occasionally find at Costco. On the other hand, my Arctic Star and Honey Halo harvested in the same windows, and similarly cared for, are top quality.
