Store bought fruit - what we are missing out on!

This is true of all fruits that ripen off the tree. It’s the ethylene gas they emit that speeds the process, we also use it to artificially ripen commercial fruits that are picked too early
More fruit together = more ethylene= faster ripening process

Have you tried organic grocery store produce? I have a reaction to non-organic apples but not to certified organic ones.
I have also found that they taste slightly better (still definitely not as good as homegrown of course).

Yeah, they still do the same thing to me. A lot of the stuff they spray on apples these days are also labeled as organic from what i can see. To me, commercial organic labeled products just means someone’s willing to pay extra to make us pay extra. Once upon a time, i had to deal with the fda and with enough money, you can pay them to approve ANYTHING and i mean ANYTHING… I’m assuming commercial agriculture is the same’ish when it comes to labels.

Also you just reminded me, i was over at a few nurseries over the weekend and picked some apples from their trees as well  just realized i had 0 reaction to them without having to cut the skin off. It’s almost second nature to me to cut deep into the fruit when i get it from the store but I’ll eat the skin without issues and not even think about it if i know the source doesn’t spray for anything. Unless it’s cherry maggots :sob: I’m traumatized by those…

The teeny tiny worms in some of the plums don’t give me issues but the fat cherry maggots do. This shiro Plum tree is hanging out in Restoring Eden and they let me pick it to my little heart’s content :face_holding_back_tears: I can even eat mulberry bugs without issues at this nursery but I couldn’t eat them without my throat getting itchy from someone else’s place in Colorado cause all their neighbors spray even though they don’t spray.

Honestly can’t say enough good things about Restoring Eden in SeaTac, WA cause they spoil me :face_holding_back_tears: the main guy who runs the SeaTac location introduced me to the Plum and i bought a tree cause my daughter also loves plums as well. I try at least 1 of each variety in the grocery stores when it comes to plums and none can compare to home grown as well. Even the exact same variety can taste just flat out bland or like flat sugar juice in comparison…

I just bought 2 different Plum trees this weekend  don’t wanna have to rely on my friends at all the nurseries and the random “hey is that a Plum tree out in public?” along random roads and in wild lol. Plus I’m running out of room. At this point, I’m even buying plants to give to people  just so i can have an excuse to raid the random trees they plant in the nurseries

You just reminded me, that I have a friend who is allergic to apples and that I grow a variety which is allegedly hypo-allergenic.
