hi, I’m not an expert in plants. This year I had several varieties of pear in my garden. And I noticed one thing: the flowering of the Asian pear tree has a very strange smell, like chlorine or something rotten. Is it normal?
Yes, Asian pears appear to be one of the species trying to attract flies rather than bees. More a rotting flesh smell to me.
Chestnut flowers are not music to human noses either, but, nevertheless, attract bees like crazy.

I love making unsuspecting friends and family members smell those things

Pears blooms are not known for their pleasant smell. European pears and Asian pears smell the same.
