@Fusion_power Thank you; that’s good info.
Has anyone checked in with Sand Hill and know how they are doing with incoming orders vs. possible stock? I see they had a lot of vole issues, so they will be limited for many of the varieties I want. I haven’t ordered yet, but I wanted to get several types from them and don’t want to get my hopes up.
I will probably talk to Glenn Sunday and can ask.
Great. This is the list I’m currently considering, although I probably won’t get them all due to limited space, just in case specific shortages come up. I plan to order a bunch of seeds as well.
Becca’s Purple
Delaware Purple
Bradshaw
Cordners Red
Vietnamese
Carogold
Vardman
I have a lot of of Becca’s Purple and Vietnamese. If for some reason he doesn’t have them feel free to hit me up in the spring and I can send you a couple potatoes to start you own slips of those two.
Thanks @belowtheterrace . I may take you up on that after I hear about Glenn’s stock.
By the way, after all these months, any flavor reviews on new varieties now that you’ve probably been working your way through your stock. Peru Purple vs. Becca’s? Any new favs for a dark orange?
Purple Peru is still my favorite but all of the purple’s I’ve tried from Sandhill are pretty similar. Becca’s is a good performer too and I’ll keep growing that one.
Dingess Purple probably had the highest sweetness of any of the purples this year, but that’s not the case every year.
And I haven’t found an orange variety that beats Vietnamese yet, just because of the vole damage. It still gets hit by voles but not nearly as bad as the other orange varieties. But I’m afraid to not plant another orange variety. I think it’s helpful to have a sacrificial crop.
