Holy jumpin’ Jehoshaphat. Those berries are monsters.
You know it’s true especially at 3am when you can’t sleep
everything that i have growing except for a few wild ones that interest me were either bought from nurseries or from trades with folks on social medias…and a few from folks on here. I have no special skills other than my diligence. Kotata and Siskiyou as well as Illini Hardy were incredibly too complicated to obtain and Newberry was ridiculously expensive.
I have no desire to be a PT Barnum and tease everyone with unobtainable things for my own glory… i offer things but very few folks take interest. Likely why these things are gone from the trade in the first place.
Unlike some that tease for years for their own glory… i will do my best to share/trade or sometimes sell in order to fund my own little hobby.
I would rather point someone to a nursery or ebay/etsy store than to profit myself… as i have relied on some of those small hobby growers myself for the things that i enjoy.
Have you had Heaven can wait by gurneys?
Ordered it last yr
Ah so this year will be the review year. I’ve been eyeing it
By the way, how’s sweet giant doing?
I check every week on the website and every day in my email for this one
Sweet Giant is growing good… i havent had it fruit yet because i cut all first canes to the ground myself. I will do some cuttings in case my one fails or something.
These nurseries i think wait until after mothers day to sell some things…
Its in the minds of most everyone to plant strawbs and berry plants ‘after the last frost’
That is good to know. I assumed most stores stopped selling blackberry and raspberries after the first few months of the year. (after planting season) I will have to keep watching the websites.
Looking at raspberries myself. We have a lot of native Black Cap Black Raspberry spread by birds in our area in Minnesota and I do want to keep them growing on the property. My Fruit Gardener’s book says they can spread Raspberry Mosaic Virus. Is that a real risk in the upper midwest? Would Yellow / Red / Purple have more resistance? It seems they are always finding a new way a virus spreads.
I can easily get cultivars:
Yellow: Anne.
Red: Caroline, Polana, Prelude.
Purple: Royalty.
I believe black raspberries were just supposed to be less tolerant of the virus than red/yellow varieties. (I.e. more likely to actually die or be severely stunted.)
