As Iā€™m able (and Iā€™m hoping to have time), I plan to make some edits to the map. Iā€™ll adjust symbols for members vs nurseries vs orchards and possibly adjust colors for wholesale vs retail. Itā€™s a lot of work but I think it would be beneficial. Adding known (mostly positively reviewed) nurseries would improve the function of the map for ā€˜ourā€™ purposes, I think. Additionally it will be easier to do sitting on the computer vs. my phone.

Maps that Iā€™ve made for myself in google include locations for trees to forage based on species. I-naturalist is a wonderful resource for this as well as falling fruit, however both are kind of clunky on mobile for this purpose. If anyone has an interest in taking a collaborative approach for something like that, let me know and maybe a separate map could be started? I donā€™t want to add too many layers or confusion to the member map. Being able to turn off/on layers for harvest months/periods would be a huge game changer for something like that. Maybe even a bi-weekly estimated spread.

Thanks for the effort! what do you plan to do for orchards? I have spent a lot of time trying to find interesting varieties of apples. It would be good to have some links (i donā€™t know how) that would allow a list of varieties of interest and perhaps ripening times, u-pick, etc. there are a lot of orchards here but few have anything outside of the common commercially popular cultivars.

Wow that is very thoughtfull and a great idea. I think you can add comments to a location in google maps, so you could add what it is and avg ripening window.

I would love to make a ā€œU-Pick mapā€ basically to go along the same lines as the roadside finds, except as the orchards are actually businesses it would make sense to add them to the current map. There are already some on the current map, it just needs to be expanded.

I have really enjoyed the apple picking experience at my own local orchards, itā€™s a great way to spend time with the family.
