The Ultimate Pawpaw Variety Guide

Since I complained here it’s been warmer, and the pawpaws are ripening as they should again. Southern CT is just hit or miss for late pawpaws. I picked the last of the Sunflower today, KSU Atwood is still going strong for a little while longer. So it seems to be that Shenandoah is a home run in my location and pawpaws that come in earlier should be considered. Anything later than Shenandoah will be subject to poor ripening when the weather turns chilly.

I had ripe Atwood and Sunflower pawpaw fruit from Ockoo in central MA a few weeks ago. You shouldn’t have had any issue getting them to ripen in southern CT this year.

Mine were barely starting to ripen a few weeks ago. The Sunflower is almost done but I have a lot of fruit left on the KSU Atwood tree. These trees get a lot of afternoon shade so maybe that’s why they’re late, but it was the same last year.

I know many here complain of uneven ripening with Atwood…especially in hot, dry summers. Maybe that’s the issue.

Please add a link to your website - it’s been a while since I was there.

I have it linked in my profile! Still needs updates…
