These don’t mix well

Looked at some more peach buds for freeze damage today, and of the half dozen I checked, the insides were moist and green. So it looks like they survived this cold spell. Pears were in worst shape, apples look okay.

It’s not supposed to drop below 40 over the next 10 days, so if we can get to April 15th (last avg freeze date) with no more freezes, we ought to be in the clear.

Most of my apples have fruit buds emerging, so I hope they will produce this year- Macoun, Cortland, Alkmene, Suncrisp, Zestar, Goldrush, Golden Russet, Roxbury Russet, King David, Grimes Golden and Liberty. My Novaspy had a bunch of dead branches I had to prune off, so I wonder if it’s long for this world. Pristine looks like it might have a few buds, but Honeycrisp has nada.

You have a lot of the same apple varieties as I have. I haven’t really found any of them to be duds. You’ll soon have so many apples you won’t know what to do with them all. The wait will pass before you know it.

Thanks, I hope so. I’m keen on maybe getting some Macoun, Goldrush, King David, Zestar, Rox Russet, and Suncrisp, the others I’ve had before and they were okay. The Gold Russet is too small after 5 years in the ground, so I doubt I’ll let it fruit. It’s always been a runt tree.

I really hope we’ll get our first peach crop, those are the ones we really like. We should also get a big blackberry crop, I weeded and cleaned up one of the runs this weekend, looks a lot better. I used a push mower for some of the work, my dog did not like it, he was barking at it, and trying to bite the front wheels. He went crazy. Maybe he doesn’t like Craftsman mowers…
