i plan to do this to my 4’x 8ft Nelson blackberry bed. them suckers have some wicked thorns. found a blog from a guy in N.H that grows Natchez and triple crown in our z4 by laying the primocanes on the groud in oct and covering with straw, mulch then snow. i already do this with my dewberry except dewberry has thorns. these dont and are much more productive than my dewberry or Nelsons. also semi trailing so shouldnt be hard to cover. im psyched and so is my wife who tried blackberries from my Nelsons for the 1st time last year and is hooked! got 2 of each coming next spring. if they work out i may get rid of Nelsons completely.
