So is mine and I kinda hate it. I found an old college notebook unused and keep the data there, as it was difficult to remember what i did with the maps. I grow in more than one location so I have multiple maps. Having them on my phone would be great. I would actually use that app. I use very few apps.
Really when I need it is when I’m collecting cuttings or scion to double check I have the right cultivar. It also be nice to keep track of any grafts on the plants.
java should change it’s motto then, “to write once run anywhere except ILParadiseFarm’s computer”.
I’ll second the Chill Hour App; input the zipcode, and have it go to the nearest weather station…
You could keep track of grafts and varieties with picture uploads. This would be a great back up to tree labels. I think something like this would be great!
You are going too want to reconsider Java. For an app to be truly useful it need to run on portable devices, phones, tablets etc. Java apps will run on android devices however they must be ported to run on the native Virtual Machine Dalvik. Davik is not a 100% drop in replacement for java. Beens and libraries are not implemented in there entirety nor is Abstract Window Toolkit or Swing. Simular is true for Java for IOS. It would be best to choose a multi platform middle ware and code to its features.
I will be coding in C# and using Xamarin for middle ware.
Javafx can be ported to android using gluon and for a simple app with text boxes and buttons that might be the best way to go, because then you can make both jars and apks from the same source code or just write it using android XML if poeple would really only use it on android. But, screw IOS I’m not paying apple 100$ plus 100 a year to have apps in the iOS store when google play is 25 one time fee.
An app version of gardenregister.com, or something similar, would be extremely helpful.
An orchard map would be nice, I agree (perhaps with an ability to “pin” specific branches for those who multigraft?).
Some sort of yearly task list/organizer with dates would be nice as well. Choose all your tasks (spraying, planting, pruning, etc) and it spits out a rough calendar based on location.
would having the ability to add data about multiple grafts to a tree be useful to people? IE
