Does anyone have experience with wire anchors/ wire vises? Could they be used without an inline tensioner and to simply pull more wire out every year, or would that not really be possible?
We bought them and installed for our new grape trellis. It’s certainly simple. That’s about all I can speak to since we took it apart because posts were unstable (separate, related issue). After we concrete in the posts, I plan on putting it back together with a turnbuckle because trying to pull the 9g through them yanked the posts.
This is extremely valuable information to me, as I’m finalizing my grape trellis design. I have a short run of about 20ft with 2 grapes. My current plan to keep things simpler is to not add any in line tensioning devices, accept that some slack will occur, and try to pull it through the wire vises when there is a significant amount. Would you advise not doing this route and encourage the use of a turnbuckle or other type of in line tensioner? My posts will be braced with beams, but I may be underestimating the force 2 grapes can put on the cable
20ft isnt very long, you can always add a wire tensioner thats used for electric fences for farm animals, they are only a few dollars each.
I spent 3 days to get inspired and built my grapes trellis. I use grow bags instead of digging holes. There will be 3 grapes vines going up the trellis. I modify the basket ball into a trellis. The rim will be the final destination for the grapes. It may take an addition year for that to happen.
No idea. Brand new to grapes. Maybe you can post the question in one of the grape threads?
