Phil, love the layout. What is the center to center spacing on the trees?
Dug out an apple seedling (with HC grafted to it) that i planted 3 years ago… bad spot for an apple (too hot right against the house)…going to put a stonefruit in the same spot. Got most of the major roots out of the ground so it shouldn’t sprout back up…a dirty annoying job, but it is done. The rabbits had also chewed it hard over the winter so it was hurting…i finished it off.
Thanks! 5.5 ft vertically and 6.5 ft horizontally if that makes sense
Raspberries and blackberries love hollytone!
A squirrel got in the shed and found the bike trailer… i might be able to salvage it for something–didn’t get the sides, floor or front…but the seat is toast… We don’t use this one anymore, the reason it was put away in the shed. I talked to my brother and he said their tree stands get chewed apart all the time by squirrels… i washed it out because there was a full blown squirrel apartment in there.
Damsquirrels
I had lots of “choice” words when i found it.
I had a rat do the same to mine.
Ugh…i was going to CL it too this past summer but i have a problem with accomplishing simple tasks. Oh well… i’ll figure out another use. Going to take a utility knife and just get rid of what is left …maybe it would work for a dog or something. Maybe i can crawl inside and my wife can pull me around.
We bought ours to take the baby along on bike rides. All I heard about was how I’d have to bleach and sun sterilize it so that Hantavirus wouldn’t kill the baby. I patched it with some camouflage patterned material and it was good to go. And no the baby didn’t get Hantavirus. Over the years a surprising number of creatures have decided to make nests in baby related transport vehicles: double strollers, single strollers, jogging strollers, bike trailers, etc. Now that I think about it, it all makes perfect sense : cookie crumbs + dark place = alluring rodent hideaway. The question is, what were you eating in yours while your wife was pulling you around?
I’d bring a pillow and take a nap.
This trailer is a double and it is honking wide. It was quite annoying riding on sidewalks because it would take up the whole sidewalk. I only used it for a few summers. I also have a single that is much smaller that i prefer. All of this stuff is nearing its end. The youngest will be 6. I’ve got a jogger and a stroller that need to go.
I bought a snowmobile and left it parked in the middle of the circular driveway over night. The next morning I thought it had been vandalized with a quarter sized hole cut in the plastic gas tank. Then I saw only squirrel tracks leading right to the sled. I couldn’t believe he gnawed on a plastic gas tank! I googled it and sure enough other people posting my problem too. I had to buy a whole new tank for the sled! Plus now I’m afraid to leave my sled parked anywhere.
Squirrels in our yard gnaw through the thick plastic trash cans with no problem. We got holes all over them.
I’m glad I’ve never had that problem but then again the life expectancy of a squirrel around my property is very short.
Oh…i fixed the problem.
Trailer is good…i cut out all the torn fabric and took the shop vac to it… probably would work for a dog…probably need a sheet of 1/2 plywood or plastic or something to beef up the floor a little.
Squirrels/rabbits/voles… all on my most wanted list.
There are wilderness areas in parts of the Sierra Nevada that you can’t park your car, (the specific case I know of are trailheads in Mineral King) without surrounding the vehicle by chicken wire. The local rodents, Pika, like to consume all the rubber hosing in the engine compartment. Pika are a groundhog-like creature. You might need a similar strategy if the problem is that bad…
Just love this time of year. Frankenstein apple tree is in full bloom. Anna, Red Fuji, Dorsett Golden all flowering on this tree.
Wow, in contrast to the current thread “I hate this time of year” I like your time of year, when it happens here in about 2 months!
I started my onions yesterday, sorted through my seeds. I have some damaged seed packs that got wet on me. In order to save this seed, I need to grow it out, so my priority for what I grow this year depends on how damaged the seed pack is. Some got moldy, and I need to see if I can salvage the seed. Most look OK, but not sure?
I also have seed coming from members, but may need to hold it till next year.
We are approaching my favorite time of the year. This is the time I can see which of my last year grafts (many) will flower and set fruit for the first time. After saying that my pear buds are about a month ahead so who knows if they will survive. As of now my apples, plums, and nectarines buds haven’t started puffing out yet. This is a good reason to have several options. I would hate for everything to get wiped out for a year.
Am outside pruning brambles and cleaning the base of one of my peach trees that has peach tree borer issues.
It is worse than I first thought, I killed 5 while clearing out the goo and now am wondering if I can spray triazicide now or should I wait awhile. the ground is very workable but I know there is a long time to go before it warms up. What the next step. I have read all of the posts on what to do but when is the question at this point.
