What unusual vegetables should I grow that I've never heard of?

I just found another perennial vegetable that’s overlooked as a mere garden ornamental in Europe and America. Native to the southern and eastern borders of the Black Sea, Trachestemon orientalis is easily grown as a vigorous perennial groundcover in gardens. Despite lacking much edible documentation in English, when using its various Turkish names (of which there are numerous), a plethora of recipes, photos, and videos of its food use become available. From what I have found so far, the name “kaldırık” seems to be the most popular and will bring up the most info when searching (linked here).
