Where do you get your bird fig protection bags?

Amazon has lots of them, but they are very big. I’ve seen small fig bags in photos that just fit the fig.

Where do you get your bird fig protection bags?

When I use them it’s for pollen isolation. I use organza bags. Come in multiple sizes on Amazon.

Thanks. What size do you use for your figs, Drew?

I was thinking 3x4.

Jeez I don’t remember? I don’t use them anymore I mostly used to keep wasps off figs. For some reason it has not been an issue the last few years. Plus I get a few hundred figs it’s quite a job to protect.

I got 3x4 for my Mora de Caneva figs. The organza bags that I got on amazon have a useable space of 3x2.95 inches since the string that tightens the bag takes up space towards the top of the bag. MdC figs have an elongated shape and the bags worked well for me. I’d tighten the string of the bag right to the stem/neck connected to the fig. That prevented most bugs from getting in. An ant or two would get trapped every once in a while. I didn’t have problems with birds getting to them. I’d put the bags on the figs once they started to change color rather than keep them on for a month+ at a time.

These bags have proven useful for selected fruit Maggot Barriers for Tree Fruit - Fedco Seeds otherwise netting the entire tree may be a better option. Bird Netting — OrchardValleySupply.com

Hope this helps

If it doesn’t help me, it can help someone else. Always good to have the info.

Thanks!

I bought 100… 4x6 organza bags off Amazon several years ago… and I am still using them.

I bought some larger bags too… maby 6x8 that work well on my concord grape clusters.

Speaking of netting I really like American netting’s green bird netting. It holds up for years , UV protection stops aging which weakens strength of netting. It should last 4-6 years. Or longer if lucky. I repair tears with zip ties. Usually the branch will break before the netting, but tears hsppen, from raccoons squirrels etc.
