The rootstock is Alba Tartarica which should be Hardy enough for zone 4 or even 3…

Received Gerardi from Lucille yesterday. Very nice looking though seriously rootbound. Took some effort to free it and it was awake. Mulberries do alright with a lot of root manipulation?
Also received a beautiful witch hazel and two very beautiful/huge gooseberries. What is it about receiving such nice plants that makes you instantly feel like you need more from them?!

I am hoping for an update on Gerardi and El Dorado from Lucile.
We got two Gerardi from her last season, and just placed an order for two El Dorado and Sweet Lavender mulberries. Not sure what to expect here in MA - Z6a but would love to hear what others experience have been on growth, productivity, and taste, especially on El Dorado.

My Gerardi is dead, I think. It did wake up, but just in time for the 4/21 freeze, which zapped it. There were 2 tiny dots of green on the rootstock a month later, but I moved it and knocked them off. I think the rootstock is still alive and if so next spring, I’ll graft to it.

@Eme.. I bought my first Gerardi from BRN..
Got this picture of it on April 10.
April 15… we had a hard frost… which took all my peaches apples concord grapes… and my Gerardi.
All growth got toasted and my little Gerardi never sent out any more growth.
The one I have now I grafted a couple years later.

Life the past few years has limited my time for fruit growing and those mulberries are on an acre I’ve only visited a couple times since then. I did happen to get out that way this spring when the El Dorado was fruiting and they were tasty. The tree needs some weeding and care but seems to be thriving despite neglect. Next time I get out that way I’ll have to check on the others. Good luck with your plantings!
