That certainly looks like lamb’s quarters to me. A google image search of “good king henry” appears to be a different plant.
what in crap. not happy. i started in a soil block, they sent me lq seeds then . I’ll have to see where i got them and complain
l.q seed gets into everything here. still a very good green to eat. wife cant eat them as she gets kidney stones so i feed mine to the chics n’ geese. they love them
My cumin plants made cumin seeds. I’ve never grown this before and started them relatively late. Seems bizarre they flowered so fast and so young and with an abnormally cold spring. Anyone growing cumin? How do you get bigger plants before they flower? Thinking I will sow more now in hopes of bigger summer plants.
Walking onions bulbs (top sets)….
I am dehydrating these and will make onion powder of them.

mine are just starting to form. i swear the patch grew another few feet from last year. got to be near 25ft long and 4ft wide now. i think im going to spread them around under the trees like you did. started some bunching onions from seed last spring. they over wintered and have bunches of 7-9 stalks that ive been using as green onions for a month now. perennial onions are the way to go. potato onions are doing great as well. my buddy came over and was freaking out about me having so much onions already this early in the season. i sent him home with some bulbs to start and a bunch of green onions.
I’m growing basil, sage, thyme, Cuban oregano, mint, bay leaf, onions and garlic.
I am going to plant walking onions, welsh onions, garlic chives, chives and perennial leeks this year. I’m always on the lookout for perennial herbs and spices.
I need to get some more lemon balm to grow in my yard I think a tree falling wiped out my old ones
Sage bouquet (I got sick of it and cut out half), flowing lovage and Vietnamese coriander. The last was a sickly, pathetic, virtually no leaves thing from sow exotic, but has made a big turnaround with a little love. No idea what they do to grow such pathetic plants down there (and say that’s how they should look when you send pictures!), I’ll never order again.
I found out earlier this spring just how many Mint varieties there are. Chocolate mint was always a revelation to me. Tastes like a York Peppermint Pattie. It goes really well in banana smoothie combinations. But then I found out there are so many “fruit flavored” mint varieties (strawberry, banana, pineapple etc).
But the one that really sparked my interest was “Basil Mint”. A mint that supposedly smells and tastes like basil. Anyone in Zone 7B witnessed how frustrating basil can be in a late winter/early spring like we had a couple months ago. Temperatures fluctuating between 70 to 80 degrees… all the way down to 32f in the matter of hours. Temperatures devastating for Basil plants. I was constantly taking my Basil inside my garage seemingly every day for weeks.
Now here comes this “Basil Mint” revelation. A plant that is zone hardy down to zone 4? It’s a perennial. Yeah, this is a game changer. I did taste one leaf and it did not remind me of an exact clone of Italian basil. Like a combination of basil and mint. But it smells so much like italian basil. I’ve got to try it in recipes. My plant is very small. By the end of the season it will spread like mint does… like a weed. This might just change my life.
(I’m growing it in containers so it doesn’t grow out of control).
2026 is the year of the mint for me. Incredibly cold hardy perennial herbs that are the most low maintenance herbs in existence. They find a way to survive.
I did find an “oregano thyme” mint variety too. I haven’t purchased it yet. I’ve bookmarked it though. I’ve heard nothing but great things about that too.
Mint basil sounds very cool for a pesto!
we have spearmint among the grapes and a small patch of chocolate mint for my partner to make in banana smoothies. i also have catmint and catnip for the cat, obviously.
the chocolate mint has not spread much which is nice.
i put in more basil yesterday. my cilantro didn’t come up. i planted direct sow lots, almost an entire packet as i love the stuff. and not a bit of it has germinated. I’m hunting now for cheap bulk seed for it i guess
the walking onion and garlic patches are everywhere i just ignore them until i need some to cook with. i plant in all sprouted alliums along that fence and another area of it. some is beat down bc i was climbing in to prune there
mint under the grapes. it takes a lot of beating back to keep it there
there is a horehound in there as well
Keep us posted on that one. Try drying it and see what flavor stands out.
I made onion powder out of those walking onion top set bulbs. Very tasty and pretty.

looks delicious! one of mine has the pink in the top sets, I’m so greedy for them this time of year i just cook with them immediately. i should learn restraint and dry some.
This guy has a nice break down of the mint basil. Says the mint part fades when cooked leaving mostly the basil taste.
Has/is anyone growing some of the Jim Westerfield mint varieties? I had never heard of them before, saw a reference to him on an etsy shop, and one quick rabbit hole later I know have an order from Fragrant Farms for 8 of his varieties. Wanted to know what others experience with the different mints are. Right now I have spear and variagated chocolate, I assume the other varieties have similar growth habits.
Found a patch of lemon balm still alive in my back yard. Will be transplanting it to my front yard soon.
