If you want to deal with the yew on your own, you might get a few bucks for the apple. I see someone in Frederick asking $100 for the wood from 3 apple trees they cut down, and someone in Warrenton VA wants $50 for the wood from a single tree.
Wants isn’t Gets
as others have suggested, i also suggest either list free firewood on craigslist or bury in mounds and plant on it - aka hugelculture.
Yes. the point of my post above was that HK works also without the mounds. I first buried logs in 2012, by now I can say that the benefits extend beyond the 6 years quoted on wikipedia. You end up with a permanent pocket of loam in clay (in my case), which is beneficial at least when it comes to water retention, but surely also to support more life in the soil.
I have a couple of barbecue fellas that use various types of wood to smoke their meats. They are especially fond of apple. I have one friend who is lusting after my pecan trees and took the wood from a couple of peach trees this past year. That might help.
Nature’s solution is mushrooms, which hugulkultur can help with. Putting it into the soil gives you more fungal soil, which is what our fruit trees need.
