So, where are you going?? You’re not talking about that, are you?? You look so young in yer pic…
We have six young fruit trees, on the side lawn of our five acre property. When we planted them,we gave each tree the perimeter suggested for, given the adult size they would eventually reach.
They are also in straight lines to each other, and are easy to mow around with a large mower.
Ah thank you. That picture is a few yrs old back when I was about 70. I still get around well but as they say time is undefeated.
I imagine your area, high altitude desert, would be beneficial to one’s health: dry, clean air, low allergens, pure sunshine. And not too hot in the summer?
This little section of my orchard along with about 100 additional square feet are the only part of my property that gets mowed with a pusher.
Very nice and good spacing.
Looks good. You did a better job with your spacing than I did.
I use a four stroke Honda string trimmer. It’s just OK. Marginally better than a decent two stroke.
I look longingly at the new 54v haymakers I see at Home Depot. I could just come home from work, put on my safety glasses flip the switch and knock off 30 minutes of weed whacking.
Those 4 stroke weed wackers are just too heavy and cumbersome. I don’t mind having 2 strokes because they are so light and nimble. My string trimmer, chainsaw, and leaf blower are all 2 strokes that run 50-1 mix so I tend to just mix a gallon at a time which usually lasts me about a month or two. A tip is to always use 93 octane with 2-stroke engines. They will run like raped apes.
I just got the 80v trimmer from Lowe’s, Awesome!
When I use a weed whacker I use a light weight one not because it works best but for it’s light weight.
Like to add my endorsement for lithium battery powered yard tools.
No gas, No oil, No spark plugs, No air filters, No Fumes, just add battery, push the button and away you go.
You can also turn your lawn mower upside down to clean it or hang it in the shed.
I thought I was allergic to grass seed, turns out I was just allergic to toxic mower smoke.
You can also purchase tools without the battery, makes adding extra tools cheaper.
Costs me 5 cents electricity to recharge the battery. Lithium Battery tools really are a game changer.
Like to also add a weed-eater blade that I wish I had years ago.
Renegade carbide blades. Best invention ever. No effort needed, you can just slowly move your machine and it cuts through everything. Gives more control when trimming around trees.
I’ve had the Craftsman 19.2 volt weedeater for a couple of years. It’s great with the lithium batteries but crappy with with the ni-cad. I’ve got a bunch of other tools that use the same batteries, and they’ve all been good. No lawn mower, though.
Where do you order new blade at ? I have the attachment but I haven’t had the chance to use it yet.

Dont use those anywhere near rocks, fence, plastic, metal, etc. I have the same blades. They are great for clearing brush and saplings. But worthless on grass.
I bought a new string trimmer…so figured i would share info/intel on the whole shebang.
String Trimmer-
My Husqvarna 223 that i have had for about 15 years give or take still starts and does what i want it to… but my primer bulb is busted and im pretty sure it needs a new carb or cleaned again. Its very finicky now and some times it runs like new and others i have to run it half choke. I have used and abused this thing and even loaned it out. Back when i bought it it had a 300HR rating which meant it had a commerical grade engine i guess. I bought another one off of craigslist about 5 years ago and it had a 50HR rating. The craigslist one was used by a commercial landscape company and the whole carb was gummed up. I got it going but it wasnt the same as my other one. My old one is the best trimmer that i have ever used… so light and powerful and seems to be built like a tank.
So this weekend i picked up an ECHO SRM-225 which i love… but alas it is now a 50hr unit… the old ones were 300hr. I have read threads saying that they have cut corners on the new ones versus the old ones… and alot of chinese parts now versus Japanese etc.
I dont need/use a trimmer now as much as i used to… so perhaps all things will equal out.
Mower-
I am about 6 years into using a craftsman mower with a Honda engine. Craftsman M140. It has a bag and i have to push it. So far its been bulletproof. I mow onto things during the spring/summer then in the fall i use the bag and collect the leaf scraps etc and use it as mulch. Usually i carry around or place some plastic trash cans or muck tubs and dump the bag. I often bog it all the way down to kill it as i dont mow that much in some of my areas… it keeps trucking after i unclog it. I have hit some rocks and bent the blade… new blade was bought at walmart and was priced cheap.
I have a cub cadet riding mower but i hate it and never use it… i need to sell it. My push mower gives me exercise and i just enjoy doing it more…
Oil-
I am liking ECHO Red Armor oil… i mix at 32:1 and sometimes i put a cap or so in my mower just for feel goods. Its rated JASO MA and easily available and fairly inexpensive. So thats all i really need/want out of an oil. I use Rotella 5w40 in my push mower/tiller and my winter truck… not wanting to start an oil war but it does what i need it to do.
I keep an ECHO CS400 saw for the farm… i really like it and it does all that i ask. Ive had Stihl and Husqvarnas in the past but i like the CS400 the most for what i need done or have to do. Not sure i could make a living with it but it does all that i ask of it and i feel safe and comfortable using it.
Generator-
Sometimes i use my little electric tiller which i love… so in strange places i might need a generator. I have a 2000W champion that is over 10 yrs old. I use it when the power goes out as well. I think during some snow storms and rain storms it has racked up probably 2000hrs? I have taken it on road trips also when i go riding on SXS and camp. Its an amazing generator. I changed the spark plug as it comes with an unknown chinese branded one… to an NGK… I change the oil probably every 100hrs of use with the 5w40. Its been bulletproof thru every thing i have thrown at it. (i have a brand new one in the box that i bought about 5 yrs ago…im not sure when/if i will ever need it but its there)

Chipper/Shredder- I have a TroyBilt CS4325… it is a beast and i really enjoy using it for leaf mulch and branches/canes. Its a PITA to move around so i usually just haul to it.
Gas Can-
Eagle all the way. I have 5 of these and one gets left outside handy… it has imploded so many times that the can looks like it was dropped from an airplane. The seal on these things is amazing.

My 2 stroke oil comes with stabilizer so i dont need to buy that either. Thats why i put a little in my mower. If im storing gas for winter i will add some also… this usually goes in my generator and seems to work well.
YMMV…but this is what i use on my farm and im happy with all of the price points and usage i have gotten out of them.
We are very pleased with our Ryobi string trimmer, chainsaw, snowblower, and tiller, and some other miscellaneous smaller items. No more struggling with starter ropes, nor gas fumes.
