I am growing mostly heirloom apple variety in my small orchard. I also have a few peach trees and a few pear trees. I plan on grafting more heirloom apple varieties to my existing trees to expand my ripening season.
I am in SW Ohio is zone 6A/5B. We get freezing temps and snow very late in the spring and also very early in the fall- early/mid Nov. So I prefer to use varieties in the zone 5 category.
