Grew up on a farm with a backyard orchard of typical Midwest fruits: apple, cherry, pear, peach, plum, grape, strawberry, raspberry, rhubarb, elderberry. Worked as a commercial corn research scientist in plant breeding and agronomy. Retired and moved to a small acreage in central Iowa where we planted a few pawpaw, chestnut, hazelnut, and Nanking cherry plants in 2005. Have since planted some blueberry, red raspberry, and strawberry plants starting in 2015 - leaned heavily on the counsel of the posters of this group for variety selection and cultural practices. Our daughter also started raising honey bees in our backyard in 2015. Planted a few apple, peach, pear, and sour bush cherry plants spring 2018.
