I grow fruits and berries between my oak trees, so shade and squirrels are both problems. I also have deer, chipmunks, and rabbits. I currently have raspberries, blueberries, red currants, Crandall currants, cornus mas, alpine strawberries, an apricot tree, a couple of apple trees, and a caged carmine jewel dwarf cherry.

I also planted a couple of small hazelnut shrubs, but they are just for a hedge, and I assume the squirrels will take any nuts. The red-leaved one is a very attractive shrub.
