(2020) Hi! I am a retired school speech-language pathologist who drives public transit part-time to support my hobby addictions. I bought a small farm in NH a couple of years ago that has a couple of very old apple trees on it, and a couple of newer ones. The listing said the trees were Golden, Quince, and Wolf River. So far, I have only been able to confidently identify the Wolf River (HUGE apples!). I got interested in growing apples and went to a grafting workshop where I successfully grafted a Macoun which is growing in my fenced backyard for now to protect it from deer. I grafted the Wolf River on M33 (?) root stock with mixed results. I think the scions weren’t thick enough. I had an arborist prune that tree as it was HUGE (and out of shape) and sprouting scions like crazy. No apples this year, but not worried, it will rebound next year (it did, it was LOADED). I then picked up a Contender peach for fun and got two peaches off of it (it’s about 6 ft tall). A year later, we couldn’t eat them fast enough! I have four Paw-Paw trees in my tree nursery that I am eager to see flourish, even though I am on the cool side for those trees (the deer jumped two fences and got them :rage:). My daughter, who lives with me, is interested in growing kiwiberries and is pursuing learning about that through the University of New Hampshire, who has extensive growing of and research on this interesting vine. All this, on top of a beginning Christmas tree farm endeavor and nursery for non-fruit bearing trees and shrubs that I buy from the NH State Nursery. I also raise Speckled Sussex for eggs and sell fertilized eggs and chicks in the spring as well. We also have a little flock of various Bantams for fun. “The Apple Grower” (Phillips) is my orchard bible and I buy almost every Mother Earth News book that they put in front of me. I’m finally living the dream at 66 (in 2020), after years of living in apartments, places with no garden space, and no time to do what I really wanted to do! Pam in NH
