T-budding question

The bark is slipping nicely on some fig trees that are in my warm grow room.

I was wondering if it is possible to T-bud a dormant chip (from refrigerated scion) to actively growing rootstock?

Some of the rootstocks is also quite green, would that pose any problems?

You can T bud that kind of chip if you can cut it thin enough while still getting down past the cambium. It helps if the stock has big caliper while the scion is small. That helps the fit.

The other choice is chip budding or grafting.

Thanks Steven.
Some of my scionwood is small and I should be able to do a bud or veneer graft. Since both of them will be the first time I am doing them, I will practice on some common varieties I can discard.

What is your recommendation for when scionwood is much thicker than stock ( 30-50% larger) ? Would chip budding be the best option?

Chip is the best option if scion is bigger than the stock. That way you can match the cambiums by how deeply you cut. T budding is best if scion is smaller than the stock. And with dormant scions where you can’t remove the wood, scions half the diameter of stock helps.

You can graft bigger scion onto small stock but it takes the right techniques.
