This is very fortunate for us fruit growers in Kansas it was way to hot. We desperately needed cold weather to prevent a total loss of the fruit crop.
has nothing bloomed by you yet? or is it just you werent meeting chill hours? I thought the issue was al ot of the south already had their peach and plums bloom etc
only getting a few in. from this mon. just alot of very cold dry air up here.
increased CO2 is known for increased atmospheric temperatures, but it also makes the atmosphere less viscous. In warmer months we experience this as higher speed tornadoes and hurricanes, and in winter months as faster air mass transport.
We getting around 14 inches according to a local weather guy i like tk follo
Ohio has also declared a state of emergency, although we’re not strangers to big snowfall, especially in northeast Ohio. With a backup generator and having put our plow attachment on my tractor I’m ready to stay in a couple of days and stay cozy (including in the heated tractor cab while I plow, haha).
Only 2 inches so far here in southern TN.
Not impressed with this storm yet.
We have plenty of cold weather.. teens, low 20s… one 5F in the forecast but they often over estimate that here.
Last winter we had a really cold night in mid Feb.. best I remember.
My jplums bloomed at least a week later than usual. But.. it did not help.. they still got frosted hard in March and lost all fruit again.. 3 years in a row now.

We have somewhat different issues - the warm temps in November and December have triggered some plants to wake up early, and now they’re getting freeze-dried, as it were:
“Historic” winter storm?
That map is strange and highly questionable… it totally left out southern Illinois. Maybe the storm will go right around Illinois
.
Looks like 3” outside with a few more hours of snow and then all day freezing rain.
I saw that forecast, but for NYC. Then, predawn Monday the temperature is forecast to be the lowest of the year. Afterwards there is no precipitation until next Saturday.
Looks like 3-4” outside this morning when I let Ziggy out. It is all sleet now, but not sure when it turned. Hopefully the transition to freezing rain holds off, but it is supposed to change by 11am, maybe sooner.
My through the window estimate was wrong. We have 6 inches here. Mix of snow and freezing rain.
I can’t believe Illinois is not on that list. We worked 13+ hours yesterday and will do it again today. We are at 10+ inches just east of St. Louis with more coming down.
Power outages moving up pretty quickly. So far Tennessee seems to have the most.
Serious vehicle!
