My toka is very sweet. Maybe because it is less juicy, it tastes sweeter and stronger flavor than other plums. In general, I peel the skin off so I pick when it is quite ripe/very red
@ztom… I have a rosy gauge and mt royal… started in 2018… they have not bloomed yet… no fruit.
How long — how many years — did it take yours to start producing ?
Thanks

My My. Royal is only producing about a quart of fruit after at least 13 or 14 years, but it is in a rather dry location.
I am “impatiently” waiting for EU plums…
And lapins cherries…

Honey Jar Jujube ( 08-23-21): Second year and sets grand total of 12 fruits finger crossed . I can not wait to taste these. Three or four more weeks needed till harvest after reading harvesting reports.
Do you have any other jujube variety for cross pollination?
I have 2 Honey trees that are still setting fruit as we speak. They’ve been flowering continuously since June, but have only started setting fruit in abundance recently. I still can’t figure out these jujubes.
My jujube did the same thing…covered in blossoms but set nothing until recently. Now there are a few hundred little jujubes growing.
You all had my Hope’s up… my GA866 and Shanx Li… 2 yr olds… grew 3-4 ft this spring and bloomed forever… just stopped blooming a few weeks back.
I have seen no fruit set though… and just checked again… still no.
Perhaps next year.
My trees are finally setting fruit in appreciable amounts only after 3-4 years in the ground. Jujubes are definitely not shy about flowering, but holding fruit is another matter. I think they’re worse than persimmons considering how much they flower!
@PharmerDrewee — we will be building a new house soon… next year or two… and I will be starting new with all I have growing.
Think I will try transplanting my two jujubes… and graft honey jar and sugar cane on top.
I have sugar cane planted same time within 10 feet of honey Jar but sugar cane did not set any fruit?
I got some good rootstock recently and debating should I plant them in ground now or in pots to graft on them next year.
95% of my Jujube trees died this February due to the Polar Vortex with -31%F. I used to have 15 varieties but now just Honey Jar. I am moving to an acreage next year and will start a brand new orchard all over again.
Thats sad but we have no control on mother nature and since you are moving next year will plant better and good one at your new place. Good Luck and keep us posting I planted Honey Jar and Sugar Cane on your recommendation two year ago.
How big a dream greenhouse will you built? Naeem needs one to.
@tonyOmahaz5 … we had a cold spell and snow and ice in Feb this year… but our low was +8.
I was happy my in ground (protected) fig survived that.
You would be welcome down here in TN… but you would have some serious heat and humidity to deal with here.
I saw -17 once here back in the mid 80s.
But hard to remember exactly when we had negative low … not in a while.
After a test sample, I confirmed our hardy kiwi will ripen on the counter so I picked them all.
A squirrel has been knocking them to the ground for the past month + and at least this way, he can’t damage these ones.
At 1.25 kg from 4 females at 5+ years, the yield is a bit disappointing, but they are very tasty.
i have 2 females and a male and they have barely grown in 4 yrs. dont know whats up with them. need to get a soil test done. they get 6 hrs. of sun.
