They’re expanding in the parafilm so that’s a good sign. It’s week 2
thought this was interesting

2022
2025
I did two grafts on there of the same variety (? why) a year apart. the top one is 2023 I think. but this is the tree and that is the growth so far. it was among the first clumsy grafting attempts. the one on the top right of the 2022 photo didn’t take.
Looks like an efficient operation ![]()
Bullock #1 fruit quality is excellent. But fruit size is small and seeds are large.
Very high on my list then!
zabergau rein taking off
claygate has fruit forming. it’s year two I think, from
@NuttingBumpus , I might let it keep one? not sure yet.
white gold and black cherry on sand cherry; they are going for it. if they take it’ll buy these bushes some time, otherwise they’re going out into the hell strip with the rest of the useless bushes
Overall grafts are off to a good start this year. It got hot quick though so doing a bit more watering than I’d like to.
I unwrapped and checked the grafts of the 2 persimmons (Kasandra and JT02) that are still dormant today. The cambium on both scions still show green and the grafts seems to healed well so I’m not sure why the delay when the other 4 grafted cultivars have already leafed out for more than 3 weeks now. I removed a few new buds below the grafts and rewrapped them since I’m still hoping that they will wake up at some point.
So how long does it take for 300 grafts?
That looks decent. Just be patient.
Interesting. The description I read of Claygate Pearmain says it makes a neat, compact tree and that it is a triploid. I think triploids are supposed to be generally more vigorous than diploid apples, but apparently this one is an exception.
I’ve got it on G.41. It’s not especially vigorous but it is a good apple.
Did 3 more apple varieties…this time some wild VT apples from gnarly pippins. Millbrook Purple, Juicy juicy pineapple, and Old Fertile russet. I have a few g890 rootstocks left, but I may just plant them in the field for now and let them size up.
I followed the internet and also did my grafts in the middle of the night… my grafts are from very long scions but the internet at the time told me they were okay length
around 8-12 inch long scions lol…
Loquat are very forgiving as said by ram sometime within the last few years…
I think it’s because their cambium layer is thick.
Took me 2 days, not working constantly, but dedicated a fair amount of time to it each day. Hands were very sore by the end!
May not be true everywhere… but here pears take quickly and are my first grafts to push out 2 ft of growth.
If only everything else was that easy.
My mulberry grafts are giving me a hard time this year… everything else has been very successful.
