$22 Italian grafting knife. Single bevel, fixed blade, carbon steel, great price, free shipping with amazon prime

Thought id share. Looks promising. I was initally going to buy the $13 grafting knife from A.M. Leonard as suggested… but after shipping costs it was around $40. So i went with an Italian blade off amazon instead.
Hopefully it performs well.

That one looks nice, and a high-quality carbon steel is supposed to be able to hold a better edge than stainless steel/inox.

For those who wish to cut out the middleman of A.M. Leonard, the Victorinox “grafting knives” they sell are actually kitchen paring knives. The 3.25" long blade of one in a different thread seems really long to me for grafting but this 2.4" long blade one seems more fitting. Purchased directly from Victorinox the shipping is much more affordable.

From what i understand the blade you linked is double bevel. The other paring knife TN hunter uses is single bevel. Cost is higher because its a specialty item.. im assuming. I would have bought it but the italian blade is carbon steel and cheaper. Essentially making it a knock off tina is what i was thinking.

I wish that their website did a better job as the style of bevel is one thing that they don’t seem to share.

I bought the DUE BUOI 202L FX instead, I didn’t need the pointy tip and wanted a bark prying tip instead. No doubt its a great knife. However. I did break it trying to pry open thick mango bark, my fault really, the bark was thicker than the knife can handle, so I’ve bought a bigger knife for that specific need. I graft a lot of wax apple, for some reason, wax apple sap stains this knife. No noticable issues with other plants. Now, the game changer for me was actually the Victorinox Swiss Classic 2.5 In Straight Edge Shaping Knife. While it is not a single edge, the blade itself is thinner than the DUE BUOI, and the double edge here is an advantage so far, as I can cut on both sides equally smoothly. It makes extremely smooth cuts as if it was a single edged knife. This combined with my cutting techniques (like sliding the blade instead of pushing it through the cut) has made superior cuts and increased my grafting success greatly, specifically on mango. The fact that its only $8 on amazon is even better. I would prefer the straight edge over the beaked edge, but so far i’ve made due, I use the Victorinox to cut my scion, and the DUO BUOI or simliar knife to make the bark cut and prying since its a straight edge. The 2” Vic is not on amazon, that would simplify my use to one knife. For me the Victorinox has become my go to grafting knife, and I have a drawer of them that were single edge before it.

*Found the flat straight edge on amazon “ Victorinox paring knife Swiss Classic 6 cm, red” its listed at 6cm instead of 2” (even the 2” is really 2.4” = 6cm)
