Not sure if that is the same one, but they just discovered some of Israel’s original figs that went extinct. From my understanding they were able to use them to bring them back to life again in Israel. Supposed to be a variety exclusive to them.

I’d wonder whether there is a fig wasp that can pollinate such a variety if it wasn’t still extant.

My understanding is (except for the common fig cultivars grown in the americas now), every fig species has a unique fig wasp for pollination.

I’m not sure if evolution would have moved far enough away from a truly extinct species for a revived one to be effectively pollinated.

Don’t worry, they have a swarm of scientist pollinating them.
