A banner year for Flavor Supreme

…Still about a month or so away, my FS tree is loaded again this year. I keep hearing how FS doesn’t set, …yes it does take a few years for it to mature. In my yard it is great!!

I only wish apricots and apriums did 1/4th as good here

Mine is loaded this year as well, although mine are just getting ripe (birds just discovered them, so put bird net across most of tree today). So far the twenty or so that we have eaten have been between 15-19 brix so far. DWN commercial chart is Fresno, so it is about a week before they list it as ripe.

Nice…mine was a turd this year…i see one fruit. Maybe next year. Good stuff…i’ve had them in the past. Love’d em… good one for here because they are “early” in these parts (mid/late July).

Steve the setting problems are not for California where you are and where they were bred, it is for the east coast and parts of central US. My tree I had for 12 years and it never set well. Its now a stump.

My brix is about 24+ with a light set. Even with over watering the brix should be above 15-19.

The low set for me is because bees don’t visit the FS trees. The flowers aren’t attractive. Hand pollination gives heavy set.

Scott why doesn’t it set fruit well in east coast? Just curious.

I don’t know if there is a consensus opinion on that. I have not had luck even with hand-pollination so I don’t think its the bees. My guess is the fluctuating and cold-patch of temps is not good for pollination. I was hoping it might eventually start producing but after 12+ years of waiting I gave up.

I haven’t watered yet this year. They should increase in another two weeks. DWN chart for Fresno has June 8th-23rd. Honey fire has been amazing, 19-22 brix and it is little early for them as well, listed as June 10th

It could be that yours aren’t ripe yet. My FS are still mostly on the tree. A few have fallen off but the others are still hard so I’m waiting.

I’m in California. Mine started bearing at about 3 years in the ground. It is now usually an alternate year bearer. This year I will have maybe a half dozen fruits. Next year I may have 200.

My three to four year old tree in the Puget Sound area of Washington hasn’t produced much, maybe 2-3 fruit last year. The thing makes a vigorous base for other Plums. Brady

Just Harvested the first Flavor Supreme. I loved it. I wish this tree would set better.

Holy cow, that’s sooo red for a FS. If it indeed is, it must have tasted out of this world. Mine stayed greenish till the very end.

In NY I got fruit the 3rd year - 3. Last year it was just a few and I didn’t get to eat them. This year I had 8 but only 3 still on the tree. It’s frustrating since the tree is so vigorous. Definitely fluctuating temperatures this year and very few pollinators around when flowering with a cold spell. Dapple Dandy next to it has about 25 fruit and flowered a few days after FS started.

That doesn’t look like my FS either. FS has a kind of moddled skin here and isn’t uniformly colored inside.

Looks too red…who knows.

I took some more photos of the FS protected with beard net. Not sure why the first ripe one is so red on a different branch.

That looks more like FS. Keep an eye on fruits from that branch!

Do you think it was a mislabeled graft, or maybe a redder sport?

Steven,

I grafted Pluerry and Nadia to it and no fruits on those newly grafts. It maybe a Sport or the white beard net cover for pest protection may have cause the color change? I will tie a rope on that branch and will see what the fruit looks like next.
